Key developments in Vietnamese Wealth and Asset Management

Ken Atkinson started his career in international banking and after 14 years, including assignments in Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia, he set up his own consultancy business. With over 42 years emerging market experience and 40 years Asian experience, Ken has undertaken corporate finance transactions in many emerging markets worldwide (Eastern Europe, the People’s Republic of China and several other countries in South East Asia). Ken has been working almost exclusively in Vietnam, Cambodia and Lao PDR during the last 28 years. His work has included financial advisory, transaction support, with a strong emphasis on capacity building projects funded by multi-lateral and bi-lateral donors. He has broad experience in advising Clients including commercial banks on project appraisal, debt finance, loan restructuring, corporate restructuring and equity funding.

Ms. Hang joined SSI Securities Corporation (SSI) since 2007 and became CEO of SSIAM since 2010. She has many years of experience in SSIAM, SSI and at W.P. Stewart, a New York–based asset management firm. In SSI, she acted as Managing Director and Head of SSI’s Research & Investment Advisory Department, cum Assistant to the Chairman of SSI and Head of Institutional Sales. She is currently Chairman of Southern Seed Company, Vice Chairman of National Seed Company and Chairman of SSIAM SIF and SSIAM UCITS funds. Ms. Hang holds a Master in Finance and BA in Accounting from American University, USA.

Gauraw is a seasoned business leader in the field of Wealth Management and Retail Banking with over 18 years of experience in Asian markets. Currently, he is based in Vietnam, where he set up and heading Affluent Banking and Wealth Management business for leading joint stock bank of Vietnam, VPBank. Prior to this, Gauraw was Head of Investments at ICICI Securities in India, the brokerage and wealth management arm of the second largest bank in India, ICICI Bank. Earlier, Gauraw worked at Standard Chartered for 10 years with many roles across Wealth Management and Priority Banking. He was Director, Priority Banking, India in his last assignment. He has done his bachelors in Economics and MBA in International Business. He been key note speaker and panelist on various industry forums and conferences.

Eric has 30 years of experience in asset management and wealth management. He has held senior roles in management, sales and strategy as a Managing Director at AllianceBernstein, Hartford Funds and New York Life. Eric is based in Ho Chi Minh City and is responsible for sales and marketing for VinaCapital Asset Management’s retail and institutional businesses. Eric earned a BA from Occidental College in Diplomacy & World Affairs, with a Minor in Asian Studies.

Michael is a prominent figure in the financial services industry in Asia. He is the founder and CEO of Hubbis, a renowned provider of intelligence and connectivity for the Asian wealth management industry. With a depth of experience and expertise, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the industry for over 30 years, becoming a leading industry presence in the events, professional development, and publishing space in the region. He has been actively involved in the Asia-Pacific region since 1993. And has lived in Asia since 1995, holding positions in Hong Kong, Sydney, and Singapore.

Under his leadership, the company achieved significant success and was subsequently acquired by global business-to-business publisher Incisive Media in 2006. Michael continued to serve as the CEO of Pacific Prospect until October 2008. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, Michael garnered 5 years of experience in financial markets publishing.

His career in this field began in 1993 when he joined Euromoney Publications as the publisher of the quarterly magazine, International Bond Investor. In 1995, Michael joined Thomson Financial Services (now owned by LSEG) and spearheaded the conception and launch of Finance Asia magazine. During his tenure as Managing Director of Finance Asia, he also initiated the Asian Debt Review, Asian Private Capital Magazine, and the Finance Asia Conference Business. In 1997, he founded FIA Limited, further expanding his contributions to the financial publishing industry.

Born in North Wales, Michael served as the head boy of St David's College Llandudno. He holds a degree in Business Administration from Cardiff University. Beyond his professional endeavours, Michael is a family-oriented individual and is happily married with three children: Reanna, Garett, and Tarryn.
