Are we missing the accelerated growth of a particular wealth segment which will overshadow the HNWI wealth base in the near future? Let’s look beyond Asia’s crazy rich and understand how WMs are gearing up with innovative wealth operating models to capture, service and retain this underserved population.

Setting the Scene for the 2023 India Forum
On August 30, a hand-picked set of experts will look in depth at the key trends and developments that emerged in 2022, which was a truly dynamic vintage that built further on the many positive changes and advances that we saw in 2021. In short, India is poised for robust economic expansion and further rapid growth and diversification of private wealth across the board, from the huge and fast-growing mass affluent market to HNW and UHNW private clients.
During the 4 panel discussions and the 5 presentations, our chosen experts will focus on as many of the core issues and development and challenges as possible. This is a brief introduction to some of the key topics and themes they will drill down into on August 30.
2022 was another very encouraging year in which genuine confidence and belief consolidated in India’s wealth market. Indeed, many were taken by surprise as to how bullish the investment and overall private wealth environment was, and still is today. Indeed, it is quite remarkable to see the ongoing diversification towards a greater array of investment options – both public and increasingly private – the enhancement of advisory propositions and services, and the growth of more professional estate, legacy & succession planning, and structuring.
Economic momentum continues to pick up across the nation and not only in the biggest cities but across many of the second and third tier cities. Technology sector entrepreneurial activity accelerates, with more Unicorns being created domestically, and at the same time FDI inflows remain robust and foreign investor appetite in general stays strong.
It is not only the public sector and mainstream asset markets that are performing well –appetite amongst wealthier domestic investors for private markets remains incredibly strong, and so too is foreign demand for private assets, especially as they focus on the new and growing wave of tech sector enterprises and new-age industries, as India’s economy re-shapes for the world ahead.
As all this is moving into sharper focus, wealth management experts report having new seams of client interest and demand from the younger, technology-centric, digital-native generations to add to the rich seams of client demand for both investments as well as wealth and legacy planning from the older generations of wealthy Indians, many of whom are seeking to pass assets on to the younger generations of their families.
Across the board in India, there is an ongoing diversification and upgrading of private client portfolios as the wealth industry delivers more interesting mainstream products, including mutually funds and more ETFs, and across the private markets. Meanwhile, the mass affluent sector of the nation continues to expand apace, just as HNW and UHNW wealth keeps rising significantly.
On the slightly less positive side, there is clearly a shortage of experienced RM talent to cater to all these private clients, but the banks and the numerous independent wealth firms in India – many of which are now very large indeed – are making ever greater efforts to boost training and to further develop a culture of professionalism in the wealth sector.
And of course, India is a truly vast and immensely populous country, hence the great need for digitalisation, which continues apace, helping the competitors in the wealth industry reach out to the many often huge pockets of client demand in all quarters of the country. The need to differentiate from the competition and pressures from rising costs in all areas are also other key drivers for the thrust towards a far more digital wealth management offering.
Hubbis will assemble a set of genuine wealth management experts, as well as specialists on digital transformation, investment migration, tax and trusts, and others on August 30; together they will pinpoint these, and many more key evolutionary developments and trends and they will of course zoom in on the incredible potential that India’s wealth management market represents.
