BNP Paribas Asset Management appoints Asia-Pacific CEO

BNP Paribas Asset Management (‘BNPP AM’) announces the appointment of Mike Nikou as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Head of Distribution Asia Pacific, with effect from 15 September 2022.

He succeeds Steven Billiet, who has continued to serve as the firm’s Asia Pacific Head after being appointed as Head of Global Client Group in August last year.

Mike will work from the Singapore office following his appointment before relocating to Hong Kong.  He reports to Steven Billiet, who is now based in Paris, and regionally to Paul Yang, Head of BNP Paribas Asia Pacific.

Mike will build on the firm’s achievements and ensure consistency with the strategy developed during Steven’s tenure as Asia Pacific CEO.  This includes reinforcing BNPP AM’s leadership in sustainable investing while deepening the commercial traction of the business in Asia Pacific, and spearheading the firm’s distribution activities by developing and managing the build-out of BNPP AM’s wholesale and institutional sales strategy for the region.  In addition, Mike will also focus on the expansion of the firm’s business and presence in China, which remains a key market for the firm and the BNP Paribas Group.

As a veteran and business leader in the financial services and asset management industry, Mike’s career spans over 30 years, of which more than 20 years were senior roles at Fidelity International.  During his tenure at Fidelity, he successfully developed business strategies for the retail and institutional segments across multiple countries and regions, including Asia Pacific.  He was most recently a Global Partner at Antler (Singapore), a global venture capital firm that invests in early-stage technology companies.

Commenting on Mike’s appointment, Steven said: “Mike’s experience in leading and developing a portfolio of businesses across multiple Asia Pacific markets enable him to have an acute understanding of client expectations in the region. With a proven track record of growing businesses in both new and established markets, I am confident he will be able to expand our strategic footprint in what continues to be a growth region for BNP Paribas Asset Management; by deepening our business development activities and delivering quality services and sustainable solutions to our clients.”

Mike holds a Diploma from the Institute of Insurance (IFU) in Sweden, an affiliate of the Stockholm School of Economics, and a Diploma in Business Marketing / Economics (Marknadsekonom) from the Frans Shartaus Business Institute in Sweden.
