White Paper - Diversifying the HNW insurance opportunity in Asia

In May 2017, we published a White Paper, in conjunction with Old Mutual International, looking at how to help broaden the types and volumes of HNW insurance solutions sold in Asia, to meet the evolving needs of clients for protection.

To date, there has been a concentration in the region on universal life (UL) policies amid an increasingly-competitive environment for providers, and there has been limited take-up of alternative offerings in the HNW space. Yet a mix of factors from regulation to the macro-economic landscape are leading to greater diversification and choice in insurance solutions for clients. The pressure on interest rates also changes the dynamic for private banks and brokers in assessing the potential for UL policies.

As part of this next phase in a journey of transformation for the insurance industry in Asia for HNW clients – we created what we believe to be the first-ever independent survey and white paper in Asia on HNW insurance solutions.

To understand the reality of the market’s predicament and highlight some potential options as a way forward – this qualitative study was based on 35 in-depth, face-to-face interviews with many of the leading insurance brokers, carriers and distributors such as private banks and MFOs.
