Vanguard appoints Head of Asia

Vanguard, one of the world's largest investment companies, has announced the appointment of Scott Conking as Head of Asia.

In his new role, Conking will be in charge of overseeing management, distribution, and operations for Vanguard across the firm’s Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing offices. The appointment, which was effective as of March 13th, 2020, will see Conking reporting to James Norris, Head of International Operations at Vanguard.

“Scott is a seasoned Vanguard leader with an impressive range of experience across many critical functions for the company. He is uniquely qualified to lead the next chapter of our growth in Asia, and further our mission of giving investors the best chance for investment success,” said Norris.

Conking has been with Vanguard for nearly four decades, and thus was with the firm when Vanguard first came to Asia around 20 years ago. The firm serves institutional clients situated across the likes of Mainland China and Hong Kong, as well as firms throughout the region.

Most recently, Vanguard announced a joint venture with Ant Financial to make wealth management advisory services more accessible to retail investors in China, according to an article by The Asset.
