Standard Chartered renews leadership bench for consumer business in Asia

Standard Chartered announced senior appointments as part of an ongoing process to renew its leadership bench of its Consumer, Private & Business Banking (CPBB) unit in Asia.

These appointments will take effect on 3 April 2023:

  • Kate Lin, currently Head, CPBB Taiwan, will join the Global Credit Cards & Personal Loans (CCPL) team as Global Head, Credit Card New Customer Acquisition. Kate will report to Manoj Piplani, Global Head CCPL, and continue to be based in Taipei before relocating to Singapore next year.
  • Sebastian Hia, currently General Manager, Affluent Coverage for Onshore, Singapore, will succeed Kate as Head, CPBB Taiwan. He will relocate to Taipei, reporting to Samir Subberwal, and Ian Anderson, CEO, Taiwan.
  • Jeffrey Tan, currently Head, CPBB Indonesia, will return to Singapore and is appointed Head, Affluent Coverage for Onshore, Singapore, reporting to Jessie Li, Head, CPBB Singapore.
  • Parag Dhingra, currently Head, CCPL Hong Kong and Regional Head CC Greater China & North Asia, will take on the role of Head, CPBB Indonesia. He will relocate to Jakarta and report to Samir Subberwal, and Andrew Chia, Cluster CEO, Indonesia & ASEAN markets (Australia, Brunei & the Philippines).
  • Anshul Sabherwal, currently Global Head, Credit Card New Customer Acquisition, will be appointed Head, CCPL and Personal Segment, Hong Kong. He will relocate to Hong Kong, reporting to Stephen Man, Head, CPBB Hong Kong.

 

Kate Lin has spent 10 years with Standard Chartered Bank in Taiwan where she helped to build a very strong franchise. She started as the Head of Integrated Distribution, before assuming the role of Head of Retail Banking for 5 years, and was most recently Head, CPBB Taiwan since January 2021. Under her leadership, Kate saw the business through a period of remarkable growth and significant business transformation and delivered strong financial performance for the Bank as
well as superior experience for our clients. Prior to joining Standard Chartered, Kate spent nearly 15 years with Citibank across a variety of roles in the cards business from product management and marketing acquisition to leading the cards sales organisation and finally assuming the role of Country Head of Sales & Distribution for Citibank Taiwan.

Sebastian Hia has more than 20 years of banking experience in various leadership roles with Standard Chartered Bank spanning three countries including, managing sales across 11 cities in China, overseeing the transformation of service processes in Malaysia’s branch network, and heading the client acquisition and affluent coverage business in Singapore. In his current role, Sebastian has made significant contributions to lay the foundation for leapfrogging business growth in CPBB Singapore; in 2022, he delivered record financial performance with strong year-on-year growth in the top line.

Jeffrey Tan joined Standard Chartered Bank in 2003, bringing with him over 20 years of retail banking experience which span distribution, performance management, segment propositions, product development, and digitalisation. Since moving from Singapore to Indonesia in 2020 to assume his current role, Jeffrey has overseen the launch of multiple strategic initiatives to transform the local franchise, such as the Priority Private proposition for high-net-worth clients,
digital loans partnerships with fintech companies, and our nexus banking-as-a-service partnership with platform players. Under Jeffrey’s leadership, the Priority Banking client base has grown in the last two years on the back of revamped Wealth Management offerings, while over 500,000 new-to-bank clients were acquired in 2022 via digital partnerships.

Parag Dhingra joined Standard Chartered Hong Kong in 2019 and has been instrumental in strengthening the CCPL business and taking it to new heights. Notably, he led the partnerships with Cathay and Alipay, and oversaw the acceleration of new digital capabilities and simplification of many processes to improve business efficiency and enhance client experience. Prior to this, Parag worked at Citi for nearly 20 years where he developed his deep experience in the cards, products and digital channels in markets including India, Europe and Singapore. He most latterly held regional leadership roles for the cards product and acquisition business for Asia and EMEA before moving to Standard Chartered.

Anshul Sabherwal joined Standard Chartered Bank in late 2019 as Global Head for Credit Cards New Customer Acquisition. Under his leadership, Anshul has simplified and sharpened the global credit cards product shelf, driven new customer profitability growth, optimised strategic relationships and incentives with card schemes and led the agile transformation of CCPL to support the development of revenue growth capabilities in key markets. Before joining Standard Chartered, Anshul spent nearly 20 years with Citibank’s CCPL business in roles across risk, analytics, product, portfolio running scale. With his extensive experience and market knowledge, he is well placed to lead our teams to accelerate growth in our Personal & CCPL business by capturing market opportunities and building a best-in-class client portfolio management.
