HSBC makes key appointments in its Wealth and Personal Banking investment unit in Asia

HSBC has announced three senior appointments in the Wealth and Personal Banking investment unit in Asia effective immediately.

The newly created roles align with the global structure to provide an integrated investment process and deliver common house views across Private Banking and Wealth Management as HSBC ramps up resources to grow and scale its wealth management franchise in Asia.

  • Fan Cheuk Wan as Chief Investment Officer, Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management
  • Patrick Ho as Chief Investment Officer, North Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management
  • James Cheo as Chief Investment Officer, Southeast Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management

 

These regional appointments also follow the recent designation of Willem Sels as Global Chief Investment Officer, Private Banking and Wealth Management, based in London.

Fan Cheuk Wan appointed as Chief Investment Officer, Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management

In her expanded role, Fan is in charge of the Chief Investment Office in Asia, responsible for developing regional investment strategies and themes across all asset classes for private banking, Jade and Premier wealth clients in the region. Fan is the Chair of the Asia Regional Investment Committee and a member of the Global Investment Committee for private banking and wealth management. Fan joined HSBC Private Banking in 2016 as Head of Investment Strategy for Asia and later assumed the role of Chief Market Strategist, Asia for Private Banking. Prior to joining HSBC, Fan spent 9 years at Credit Suisse Private Banking in various roles, including Chief Investment Officer for Asia Pacific, Head of Equity Research and Head of Research Asia Pacific. Fan also held senior China equity research roles for 11 years, working at ABN AMRO Bank, Cazenove Asia Limited, BNP Peregrine Securities and Standard Chartered Securities Limited.

Patrick Ho appointed as Chief Investment Officer, North Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management

In this expanded role, Patrick contributes to the development of regional investment strategies and drives thematic investment offerings across all asset classes for private banking, Jade and Premier clients in the region. Patrick oversees the investment strategy team in Hong Kong and manages the investment process of the Asia advisory model portfolios that incorporates core-satellite and thematic investment approaches. Patrick joined HSBC as Chief Market Strategist, North Asia for Private Banking in 2017. Prior to joining HSBC, Patrick held a number of senior roles at Credit Suisse Private Banking and UBS Wealth Management. Patrick also held senior equity research roles for 12 years, working at Bear Stearns, BNP Paribas and other brokers.

James Cheo appointed as Chief Investment Officer, Southeast Asia, Private Banking and Wealth Management

In his expanded role, James is responsible for developing Southeast Asia investment strategies and themes across all asset classes for private banking, Jade and Premier clients in the region. James has more than 16 years of experience in portfolio strategy, asset allocation and economic research. Prior to re-joining HSBC in 2019, James was Senior Investment Strategist at Bank of Singapore, responsible for asset allocation and thematic research. James previously held Investment Strategist roles at HSBC Private Banking and Barclays Wealth Asia.

The Wealth and Personal Banking division was created in early 2020, when HSBC combined retail banking and wealth management, asset management, insurance and private banking to become one of the world’s largest global wealth managers with over USD 1.5 trillion in wealth balances as at the third quarter of 2020.
