Aetna grows in Thailand after Bupa acquisition

Aetna, a global health care provider, has bought Bupa Group’s Thai business, Bupa Thailand.

The deal will boost Aetna’s presence in South-east Asia, as part of the firm’s strategy to tap further into local health care markets.

It said that Thailand is an important market given the growth in wealth onshore, leading to more take-up of health insurance.

Bupa Thailand is considered to be the country’s leading specialist health insurer, with more than 300,000 members and a network of over 400 health care providers locally.
