When setting their strategies for the foreseeable years ahead, private banking and wealth management leaders in Asia are faced with a markedly different environment today from what they faced perhaps a year ago. The pandemic hit in early 2020 and after some sharp falls in mainstream asset prices and high volatility, the markets recovered and so too volumes, and as people had more time on their hands to adjust their investments and their estate planning, private bank and IAM/EAM activity levels and then profitability both surged. It was even better in 2021, as analysts and investors brushed aside the threats of inflation and higher rates. Fast forward to 2022, and inflation is hitting some shocking headline numbers, rate rises are coming thick and fast, and the world is seriously worried about the ambitions and activities of Russia under Putin.
In Asia, of course, many of these concerns are less acute, as the region feels distanced from Russia, as inflation is generally muted across APAC, and as only a sprinkling of the region’s central banks have so far turned hawkish, and China, for example, is more likely to be able to cut rates than raise them.
The Hubbis Digital Dialogue discussion on July 21 will bring together a panel of wealth management leaders in the region to analyse the current environment and outlook and to discuss the right business strategies and key challenges ahead. They will look broadly at the need for ongoing digitisation both for efficiencies and for uplifting the client offering, they will discuss the role of the RMs and advisors, and how they can become more productive and relevant, and they will look at the availability and costs of hiring and retaining the best talent. They will review their private bank investment and custody platforms and look at how they are fighting back against the digital execution and custody platforms.
