Virtual Banking in Hong Kong: Will it be More Hype than Impact?
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority in late August announced it had received 29 applications for its first virtual bank licences, with the applicants ranging from telecommunications operators and financial technology companies to global banks. Is Digital Faster, Cheaper & Better Wealth Management?
The Hubbis Digital Wealth Asia Forum concluded with a panel of experts debating how digital can make wealth management faster, better and more profitable. The conclusion was that most of the digital tools are already sufficiently advanced, but that the private banks and other wealth management businesses now need to be brave enough to adopt the new solutions. Meanwhile, nifty new competitors must focus intently on the wealth management clients of tomorrow.

A head-to-head interview at the Digital Wealth Management Forum in Hong Kong highlighted the arrival of a website named Obuhi that has been created to connect independent workers of all type to those seeking their services. Bassam Salem, CEO and Founder of Obuhi and who was formerly CEO of Citi Private Bank explained to the audience how the site can provide vital linkages and solutions for the wealth management business in Asia.
FNZ Accelerates Asia Expansion focusing on providing Digital Asset Wealth Transformation
Harle Mossman, Managing Director for North Asia at wealth technology company FNZ, made a presentation to delegates attending the Digital Wealth Asia Forum on the application of Blockchain, predictive analytics and Robo advisory within the wealth management sector.
Data and Account Aggregation is a Winner-Takes-All Game
Tanmai Sharma is the CEO and Founder of Canopy, a financial data company that aggregates data for client accounts into insightful investment analytics. He presented his insights into customer behaviour, telling attendees he has no doubt that deep data aggregation and analysis is the way forward in wealth management.
IMTF’s State-of-the-Art Solutions for Digital Onboarding in Wealth Management
The automation and digitisation of the Client Onboarding & Lifecycle management are fundamental for all private banks and financial institutions (FIs) to significantly decrease compliance and operational costs while at the same time increasing customer satisfaction. Dr Andreas Wenger, APAC General Manager of IMTF, the Swiss-based leader of process automation & digital transformation for the global financial industry, enlightened delegates on how RegTech solutions can help.
Orbium’s Road Map for Digital Transformation in the Wealth Management Industry
John Okoro, Head of Agile Practice at Swiss management and technology consulting firm Orbium, knows that for banks and other wealth management providers need a roadmap to chart their course through the difficult terrain towards digital transformations. He has exactly that, in the form of what Orbium calls ‘the four waves of agile’.
Smart Digital Communications for the Wealth Manager of Tomorrow
Shane Meredith, Director of Wealth & Advisory at SS&C Technologies, spoke at the Hubbis Digital Wealth Asia Forum in Hong Kong. Real-time digital client communications, he explained, must be part of the wider technological revolution in wealth management, as younger clients in Asia are demanding simple, real-time, transparent and effective communication. With this, success beckons. Without it, failure looms.

Seamus Donoghue, Vice President of Business Development for Swiss technology solutions provider Metaco, is an expert in the world of digital custody, which is evolving fast, enabled by digitalisation and new transaction methodologies such as blockchain. He addressed the audience at the Hubbis Digital Wealth Asia Forum on the current state-of-the-art in the world of digital custody.

Dr Silvio Struebi, Partner of Simon-Kucher & Partners, told the audience at the Hubbis Digital Wealth Asia Forum how FinTech disruptors have leapfrogged the digitalisation and monetisation race, leaving organisationally cumbersome banks in their wake.
