Ser-Keng Ang

Ser-Keng is a Senior Lecturer of Finance at Singapore Management University (SMU). Besides his academic appointment, he is the Director and Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the UOB-SMU Entrepreneurship Alliance Centre at SMU (USEA @ SMU). He also served as the Associate Director of the MSc in Wealth Management Program at SMU. Ser-Keng was the winner of the SMU Teaching Excellence Awards in 2008 as the Most Promising Teacher and has been consistently placed on the Dean’s Honor List as top teaching faculty since 2003-04.

Besides teaching, Ser-Keng is also involved in academic and applied research into areas such as Mergers & Acquisition (M&A), capital markets, wealth management and fixed income. His article titled “Challenges of Private Banking in Asia” has been published by the Journal of Wealth Management in the Spring 2010 issue.

Prior to his academic appointment at SMU, Ser-Keng was an investment banker. He spent nine years in London and Hong Kong, where he was involved in the origination and execution of a number of cross-border transactions in the Asia Pacific region at international banks, such as Deutsche Bank, ABN AMRO and Flemings, especially in M&A and capital markets. At Deutsche Bank, he was responsible for an acquisition in the US, amounting to US$5.5 billion, for a Japanese MNC. As a Senior Vice President at ABN AMRO, he was also responsible for cross-selling a broader range of products, ranging from debt to derivative products, M&A to equity capital markets, as well as cash management to trade services. Prior to his career in investment banking, Ser-Keng worked at Arthur Andersen and Credit Suisse First Boston.

Ser-Keng received a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from London Business School, a Master in Business Research (MBR) from the University of Western Australia (UWA), and a Bachelor of Accountancy (BAcc) from the National University of Singapore. He is a CPA and is qualified for ACIS. He is currently a doctoral candidate at UWA.
