Gary Tiernan joined Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) in 2008, and is the Global Head of Relationship Management, Investment Advisory & Fiduciary within the Private Bank. He manages different teams across the global network, and is a member of the Private Bank Global Management Committee. He is also a Board Member of both Standard Chartered Trust (Cayman) Limited and Standard Chartered Trust (Guernsey) Limited.
Now based in Singapore, Gary has 25 years of international experience in financial markets, both in Investment Banking and Private Banking. He has held a number of management roles over that time.
He has been in Private Banking since 2000, and before joining SCB was Asia Head of Investments and Sales for Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management. He oversaw significant growth in the investment portfolio and managed approximately 90 people across the region. Before moving to Asia in 2004, Gary was Head of Product Management and Investment Solutions for Deutsche Bank Private Wealth Management in Switzerland. In this role, the client base was spread across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Gary started his career in Investment Banking as an Options Trader and then Convertible Bond Trader with Morgan Grenfell Securities in London. After leading Options Market Making for Nat West Securities he then managed an equity proprietary trading desk in the same firm. He later moved to ABN Amro Hoare Govett in London as co-head of a team to build up the proprietary trading activities. He was directly responsible for arbitrage and directional trading as well as serving on the UK Risk Committee. Outside the firm he was a member of both the LIFFE Equity Markets Committee and Corporate Events Committee.
Gary was born in Ireland and has a BA in Economics, Accounting and Financial Management from Sheffield University, UK. He has also attended the Program for Executive Development at IMD Business School in Switzerland.
